The sourcing problem

What it actually is — and where bulk buyers get burned

Two containers both labeled "humic acid fertilizer" can differ by a factor of four in the number that actually matters. One is a functional soil input; the other is low-grade lignite dust with a percentage printed on the bag.

The trap is the headline "humic acid %." A cheap lignite granule may carry far less extractable humic acid than a flake refined from high-grade leonardite — and because leonardite is a coal derivative, heavy metals (arsenic, cadmium, lead) have to be tested, not assumed. That is exactly what stops EU and Korea shipments at the port.

The only document that separates a real grade from a certificate-with-salt is the COA — not the label.

Step 1 · Match the grade

Find the right grade for your market

Our granular, powder and flake humic acid grades sit on one ladder — humic-acid content and water-solubility climb together, and so does price. Three grades cover almost every bulk order.

Not sure whether to buy granular, soluble powder/flake or finished liquid? See our buyer guide to granular vs liquid vs powder humic acid before you lock the grade and freight plan.

★ Which grade should you stock?

Choose the soluble flake (1-0-11) when…
  • Your buyers run drip / fertigation or foliar programs
  • Insolubles / tank residue would kill the sale
  • You need a high humic-acid % on the COA
  • You want built-in potassium (K₂O 11%)
Choose the lignite granule when…
  • Your buyers soil-apply and blend into compound NPK
  • Cost per tonne is the deciding factor
  • You move high volume for broadacre conditioning
  • You need a functional conditioner, not solubility

▸ Not sure which your buyers need? Tell us the application and target crop — we'll recommend a grade and send the matching spec sheet.

Step 2 · Audit the numbers

Honest ceiling: humic-acid content and solubility are bounded by the leonardite ore grade you start from, not by a proprietary process — ~56.5% HA at 98% solubility is near the practical top of potassium-humate refining. Higher "90%+ humic acid" claims usually change the test method, not the material. Ask any supplier which method their % is measured by.

Verify on every humic COA before ordering

  • 1Humic acid % and test method — a "70%" measured one way can equal a "45%" another. Confirm the method is the same across quotes.
  • 2Water-solubility / insolubles — for drip and foliar, insolubles clog emitters and coat leaves.
  • 3Heavy metals (As, Cd, Pb, Hg) — confirm against Regulation (EU) 2019/1009 cadmium limits before booking freight.
  • 4Nguồn — lignite vs high-grade leonardite changes both the HA yield and the heavy-metal profile.

The verification layer

How we know a batch is what the label says

Most humic suppliers ask you to trust a percentage. We would rather hand you the means to check it — because on a coal-derived input, that percentage is the easiest number on the page to move.

"A humic acid percentage without the test method next to it is a marketing number, not a spec. The same lot can read 70% one way and 45% another — nobody is lying, they just measured differently. So we quote the method with the figure, every time. And because leonardite is a brown-coal layer, we treat the heavy-metal panel as part of the identity of the batch, not as an extra you pay for."

— Rutom Bio Humic Process & QC Team
The whole range

The matrix above is everything — standard granule, 93%-soluble granule, 98%-soluble flake. There is no hidden fourth grade kept for better customers.

Ore, not process

The ceiling is the ore — ~56.5% HA at 98% solubility is near the top of refining. We can't match a "90%+" claim without quietly changing the test method.

Checkable

Every figure is checkable against a document you hold — the per-lot COA, the third-party re-test, and a certificate that lists your SKU in scope or doesn't.

Compliance

Certifications, quality & export compliance

A certificate is a claim about a system or a product category — it is not evidence about the batch in your container. For a coal-derived input, that gap is exactly where EU and Korea shipments get stopped. So this section separates the two: what we hold, what each document actually proves, and the packet to request so you're buying evidence, not a logo.

  • Organic: ECOCERT, CERES, EU organic scope must be confirmed by SKU and certificate copy.
  • Systems: ISO 9001 (quality) and ISO 14001 (environmental)
  • Per-batch QC: every batch tested in-house or by SGS before shipment; COA per lot
  • Export: experienced with CIQ inspection for fertilizer products

CERES organic certificate held by Rutom Bio
Document heldWhat it provesWhat it does NOT prove
ECOCERT / CERES / EU organicInput is approved for certified-organic production — by certifier and specific product in scopeHeavy-metal levels or HA% of any batch; that your SKU is in scope unless the cert lists it
ISO 9001A quality-management system is in place and auditedThat any individual batch meets your spec
ISO 14001An environmental-management system is in placeAnything about product quality or purity
Per-lot COAThe actual figures for this batch — HA%, test method, heavy-metal panel(this is the batch evidence — just confirm the HA test method)

The takeaway: organic and ISO certificates prove eligibility and process; only the per-lot COA proves the material. Anyone selling on the certificate alone is selling you the logo, not the batch.

What to request from any humic supplier — us included — so you hold evidence rather than claims. Paste this straight into a PO:

  • 1Per-lot COA — HA % with the test method stated + heavy-metal panel (As, Cd, Pb, Hg). Proves this batch.
  • 2Organic certificate copy that lists your SKU in scope, with number and validity.
  • 3ISO 9001 / 14001 certificate copies. Proves the systems behind the batch.
  • 4Certificate of Origin + the HS code we declare on export.
  • 5Third-party test report (e.g. SGS) on request. Independent verification of the COA figures.
!An organic logo on the page but no certificate that lists the actual SKU in scope.
!An ISO 9001 cert waved as if it proved product purity — it proves the system, not the batch.
!A humic-acid "%" quoted with no test method (a "70%" one way can equal a "45%" another).
!No per-lot COA available on request — the clearest sign you cannot verify what you're buying.

What we don't claim (honest boundary)

  • Organic certification applies by certifier and by specific product — confirm in writing whether the SKU you order is within ECOCERT / CERES / EU-organic scope.
  • We don't claim certifications we don't hold for a given market; if your destination needs USDA NOP or JAS, ask and we'll confirm what is and isn't in place.
  • We don't publish a single "humic acid %" without stating the test method behind it.
  • "CIQ export experience" is customs-clearance experience, not a product safety approval for your destination.

Landed cost & HS classification

The FOB price on a humate quote is not what the product costs you delivered. For a China-origin order, the number that hits your margin is the landed cost — and two lines surprise first-time importers.

Câu hỏi thường gặp

Frequently asked questions

Price tracks grade, not the headline percentage. Lignite soil granule is cheapest per tonne; 98%-soluble potassium humate flake sits at the top because solubility and low insolubles cost more to refine. Potassium humate also carries built-in K₂O, which moves the price with potash. For an accurate FOB figure, send the target grade, packaging, destination port and monthly volume — we quote within 24 hours.

Potassium humate is the potassium salt of humic acid — it's what makes the product water-soluble. Raw lignite humic acid is only alkaline-soluble (a soil grade); reacting it with potassium gives the 93–98% water-soluble granule and flake grades used in drip and foliar, and adds 6–11% K₂O. Same humic backbone, different solubility and potassium. For a full comparison of Humate kali so với axit humic, including solubility, K₂O and when to use each, see our buyer's guide.

Humic acid is extracted from leonardite, a brown-coal layer, so heavy metals (arsenic, cadmium, lead) must be tested rather than assumed. For EU-bound shipments, confirm the cadmium result against Regulation (EU) 2019/1009 limits. We provide a per-batch heavy-metal panel on request; confirm the specific figures for your SKU and destination before booking freight.

Humic acid and potassium humate are commonly declared under HS heading 3101 (animal or vegetable fertilizers), but depending on product form and your destination customs the classification can differ (e.g. 3105 or 3824), and duty follows the code. We tell you the code we declare on export; confirm the import classification and duty rate with your customs broker before you commit.

Use the 98%-soluble potassium humate flake (1-0-11) or, for a mid-grade, the 93%-soluble granule (0-0-6). Avoid the lignite soil granule in any tank — it's alkaline-soluble only and its insolubles clog emitters and coat leaves. For foliar, confirm the low-insolubles figure on the COA.

It's a soil conditioner and biostimulant, not an NPK replacement — it improves nutrient uptake and soil structure but won't supply nitrogen or phosphorus on its own. Very high or repeated rates can raise soil pH (the humate grades are alkaline, pH ~9), so on already-alkaline soils use it as part of a balanced program.

Yes. We supply from full-pallet to FCL volumes and support custom blends (humic + potassium, humic + amino acid) and private-label packaging through a 3-step process: confirm your need, finalize the recipe, then production.
