Buying from China is a question before it is a transaction, and pretending otherwise wastes your time. Three things are usually behind it.
Tariffs and trade policy.
Rates move, and they move on political timetables rather than commercial ones. We cannot hedge that for you. What we can do is quote FOB so the landed-cost calculation stays yours and visible, rather than burying a duty assumption inside a delivered price that stops making sense six months later.
Supply continuity.
Fertilizer has been used as a bargaining chip in trade disputes, and buyers in this category have watched it happen. The mitigation is not a promise from us. It is a second qualified supplier, ideally outside China, plus enough inventory to absorb a disrupted quarter. Any supplier who tells you their single-source relationship is risk-free is selling you something.
Whether the product is what the paperwork says.
This is the one we can actually answer, and the rest of this page is that answer: per-lot testing, named certifiers with public verification, and a document pack you can check line by line.
Two of those three are not ours to solve. Saying so is not modesty. It is the difference between a supplier you can plan around and one you find out about later. This page gives you the specifications, the certification map, the document pack, and our commercial terms. Nothing on it requires you to send an enquiry first.

Organic manure und organische Dünger are the same category under different regional habits. Buyers in South Asia, the Middle East and much of Africa say manure fertilizer oder animal manure fertilizer. Buyers in North America and Europe say organic fertilizer. Both mean nutrients from once-living material rather than synthesised salts.
The word that causes trouble is manure. In trade usage it covers any animal-derived input, including the processed protein meals this page is about. In everyday usage it means raw livestock waste, which is what a grower means by manure for plants and what an importer almost never means. Those are not the same product. They do not carry the same risks, the same documentation or the same price.
Specifications drift between the two without noticing. A tender that says manure and fertilizers in one line and bio organic manure in the next is usually describing processed inputs, but not always, and the difference is a customs classification and a registration category apart. When a specification says organic manure fertilizer oder natural manure, ask which of the two it means before you quote against it. We have seen quotes lost, and worse, quotes won, on that ambiguity.
What separates a commercial input from garden compost is consistency. A container has to hit a declared N-P-K within tolerance, batch after batch, or the blender downstream cannot formulate against it. That consistency is what you are paying for. The raw material is commodity. Holding it to a number is not.

Why the number on the bag moves
Mineral fertilizer is made to a formula. Organic fertilizer is made from whatever the protein stream delivered that week. Feather meal from one processing run is not identical to the next, and the difference shows up in the finished analysis.
The swing is usually under a percentage point on nitrogen. Small. Still enough to matter if you are blending against a target, and it is the most common source of dispute between importers and Chinese suppliers. Both sides think the other moved the goalposts.
So the useful question is not whether a supplier has a certificate of analysis. Everyone has one. Ask three other things instead. What tolerance do they declare? What happens when a lot falls outside it? Does the COA you receive belong to the lot in your container, or to a lot from last quarter?
A supplier who has thought about batch control answers immediately. One who has not sends you a certificate and hopes.
Our position: each production lot is tested and ships with its own COA. If a lot misses the declared analysis, it does not ship under that product code. That is a smaller promise than it sounds, and it is the one worth checking rather than the marketing around it.
"Animal-based" covers at least three raw streams with different release curves — hydrolysed feather keratin, fish protein, and plant protein meals — and which one dominates a formulation changes how it behaves in the field even when the N-P-K holds. Ask any supplier which dominates. A vague answer usually means the blend follows whatever raw material was cheapest that month. The agronomy is covered in what organic fertilizer is and how it works.
Choosing between them
Choose a high-nitrogen formulation
— 9-1-1, 6-2-1, Feather Meal 12-0-0 — when you are blending and will source phosphate and potassium separately, or when the soil test already shows adequate P. These give the most nitrogen per ton of freight. That matters more than it sounds when the freight runs 12,000 kilometres.
Choose a balanced formulation
— 6-5-4, 7-4-5, 5-3-4 — when the product reaches end users who apply it as a complete feed. The ratio has to stand on its own, because nobody downstream is correcting it.
Choose a low-analysis formulation
— 5-3-2, 3-3-6 — when the programme is about soil organic matter rather than nutrient delivery. You are buying carbon and structure. The N-P-K is secondary, and paying for a higher analysis would be paying for the wrong thing.

Granular, Powder and Which Ships Better
Granules
flow through spreaders, resist caking in humid storage, and survive a long sea leg. They cost slightly more to produce, because granulation is an extra step with its own energy cost and yield loss.
Pulver
dissolves faster, suits fertigation, and blends into substrate without milling. It is also the form that arrives compacted when a container has sat in a tropical port for three weeks. The material is unaffected. The labour to break it up is not, and it lands on the importer.
Manure pellets
und granulated manure are the same product under different trade names. If a specification asks for pellets and you quote granules, say so explicitly rather than assuming the buyer knows they are interchangeable. That assumption has cost people orders.
Five of the eight come as granule or powder. The choice is handling, not agronomy. The nutrients are identical. One rule of thumb from shipping this material for years. If your warehouse is not climate-controlled and transit runs over thirty days, take the granule. The premium is smaller than the handling cost of a caked pallet. Ask for the granule size range as well, not only the form. A spreader calibrated for 2-4 mm does not handle 1 mm the same way.

Where It Is Used

Row crop and broadacre agriculture
Cereals, maize, soybean. Usually the low-analysis formulations, applied for organic matter, with nitrogen topped up separately. Volume per order is high. The buyer is price-sensitive per unit of nutrient, not per ton, and quoting per ton to this buyer misses the point.

Plantation and tree crops
Coffee, oil palm, cocoa, rubber. Granule form, ring or band application. These buyers order against a planting calendar, so lead time matters more than price. Miss the window and the order is worthless even at a discount. We keep separate agronomic notes for organic fertilizer on coffee plantations.

Protected cropping and nurseries
Greenhouse vegetables, propagation media. Powder blends into substrate. Order sizes are small and specifications are tight, which usually means a mixed container rather than a single-formulation load.

Blending and re-formulation
A large share of what we ship never reaches a farm in our packaging. It goes to blenders who use it as the organic nitrogen fraction in their own product. That customer cares about batch consistency and documentation far more than about the bag, and tests every lot on arrival. They are also the most demanding reference a supplier can have. They find problems the same week, not the following season. If you can win one, do. A blender who stays two years is worth more than three end users who each order once.

Certification, and What a Certificate Does Not Tell You

Suppliers selling domestically never need to write any of this down, because their goods do not cross a border. That is why you will not find it on most competitor sites.
Two certifiers, split by formulation, no overlap. Ask for the statement covering the product you are buying. A supplier who sends a certificate with a different product code on it is either careless or counting on you not reading the annex. Both are worth knowing before the first order.
Now the part that matters more than which logo appears.
What ECOCERT and CERES issue are not product quality guarantees, and both say so in writing. The ECOCERT compliance statement carries a line to the effect that an input compliance statement does not constitute a guarantee of product quality, only that the product is suitable for organic production under the named standard. CERES is blunter:
"CERES is not liable for compliance of the above listed materials with national legislation, nor do we take any responsibility for correct registration of the products with the competent authorities in the respective country."
Read that twice if you were planning to rely on our certificates for import clearance. The certifier is telling you, in its own document, that the statement covers organic suitability and nothing else. Not your national fertilizer legislation. Not product registration in your market. Those stay with you.
This is why "we are ECOCERT certified" is a weaker claim than it sounds, from us or from anyone else. It answers one question out of the four or five that decide whether your container clears and your product can legally be sold. Suppliers lead with it because it is the easiest one to answer.
Four programmes sit behind those ECOCERT statements — EU, USDA NOP, JAS and the Chinese GB input standard — and they are separate criteria, not one certificate in four languages. A product approved under one is not automatically approved under another, which is exactly why our eight formulations are split across two certifiers. Which one you need depends on where the goods land and who audits your buyer; the ECOCERT verification guide works through that.
Verification is public and you should use it. Both bodies publish statements online, checkable at www.inputs.bio and www.ceres-cert.de, so you never have to take a PDF from a supplier at face value. We walk through that process step by step in the ECOCERT certificate verification guide.

The Document Pack, and Who Issues What
A certificate is an entry ticket. What clears a container and makes the product legally saleable is the pack of documents travelling with it. Here is the full set, and honestly which parts are ours.

Where each one gets checked

Documents fail at different gates. That is why a complete-looking file can still stop a container.
The invoice, packing list and HS classification are read by customs on arrival. Errors here are usually fixable, expensive and slow. A misclassification does not seize the goods. It re-rates the duty and holds them while somebody argues.
The compliance statement and the batch COA are read by your buyer, your certifier, or an inspector at the point where the product enters an organic supply chain. This gate is later and less forgiving. Product that cleared customs perfectly can still be refused organic status here, which turns a premium input into a commodity one overnight.
Registration is checked when you try to sell. That is the worst gate to fail, because everything has already been paid for.
In markets requiring local fertilizer registration, our certificates do not carry you across that line, and we cannot hold the registration for you. The holder normally has to be the importer or a locally established agent. That work is yours. Any supplier implying otherwise is setting you up for a shipment that is legal to import and illegal to sell.
What we can do is supply the file that registration requires: composition, process description, batch analysis history, certifier statements. What we cannot do is file it. We would rather say that now than after your customs broker asks.
One sequencing point, because it is the one that turns a two-month lead time into four. Registration and import permits have to be started before production, not after, and the compliance statement has to be current at the date of shipment rather than at the date of your enquiry. Ours run on annual cycles, so a statement sent in January can sit outside its validity by the time a Q4 container loads. Ask for the version in force when the goods leave.

How We Judge a Batch Before It Ships

We do not publish customer names or testimonials. Here is the more useful thing: what our process checks, and where it is weaker than you might assume.
Every production lot is sampled and tested against the declared analysis before packing. Organic nitrogen moves by roughly a percentage point between batches depending on the raw protein input. That is normal for this material. It is exactly why a COA exists rather than a fixed spec sheet.
What we watch harder than the headline nitrogen figure is moisture. Moisture is what turns a compliant granule into a caked one somewhere around week four of a voyage. A lot can hit its N-P-K perfectly and still arrive as a problem, and the buyer will reasonably call that a quality failure even though every number on the certificate was correct.
Now the limitation. Heavy metals are tested on the raw material stream rather than on every finished lot. That is standard practice in this industry. It is also a gap you should know about rather than discover. If your destination market or your own quality system requires per-lot heavy metal results, say so at enquiry. It changes the testing schedule and the cost. Building it in before production is far cheaper than retrofitting it after a container is booked.
The other thing we check, and it is less obvious, is whether the granule survives handling. A sample that looks right in a bag can still break down into fines during loading, and fines are what block a spreader and what a receiving warehouse rejects on sight. We run finished lots for dust and friability before they are released. A supplier who only reports the nutrient analysis is reporting the number their customer asked for rather than the number that decides whether the product works on arrival.
Ordering, MOQ and Terms
Most suppliers make you send an enquiry to learn any of this. We think that is backwards, because it forces you to spend a week of emails discovering whether a supplier is even in your range. So here is what we actually quote, before you talk to anyone.

What is the minimum order for bulk organic fertilizer?
20 tons. You can mix formulations within that, which is how most first orders are built. The floor comes from granulation line setup and clean-down cost, not from us holding out for bigger business.
How much does organic fertilizer cost per ton?
It depends on formulation, form and volume. Any supplier quoting a firm per-ton price without knowing those three is guessing. Nitrogen content drives most of it. A 12-0-0 feather meal granule and a 3-3-6 are not comparable per ton, only per unit of nutrient delivered. Send your target analysis and volume and you will get a real number.
Are all your formulations organic certified?
Yes, by two different bodies. Rutom 6-5-4, 9-1-1, 7-4-5 and 5-3-2 sit under ECOCERT for EU, USDA NOP, JAS and GB. Rutom 6-2-1, 5-3-4, 3-3-6 and Feather Meal Granule 12-0-0 sit under CERES for EU and NOP. Ask for the statement matching your formulation rather than a generic one.
Will your certificates get my shipment through customs?
No, and the certifiers say so themselves. Organic compliance statements confirm the product is suitable for organic production under a named standard. They do not confirm compliance with your national fertilizer legislation and they do not register the product in your market. Clearance depends on your document pack and HS classification. Legal sale depends on a registration you or your agent hold.
Do you supply private label or custom blends?
Both. Private label runs at standard MOQ with your artwork. Custom blends need volume above the MOQ and a target analysis. Tell us what the blend has to hit and we will tell you whether the raw material stream supports it.
What is the downside of animal-based organic fertilizer?
Two, honestly. Batch variability is real, because organic nitrogen moves with the raw protein input. That is why every lot carries its own COA rather than a fixed spec sheet. And it is bulkier per unit of nutrient than mineral fertilizer, so freight cost per unit of nitrogen delivered is higher. If your programme is purely nutrient economics and organic status is not required, mineral fertilizer beats us on that arithmetic. Better you know now.
How long does production take?
Volume orders typically ship within two months of order confirmation. Smaller and repeat orders move faster. If you have a fixed arrival date, say so at enquiry rather than after. Production scheduling is where delay is either created or avoided.
